Compressor station vibration analysis

Compressor station vibration analysis

Unscheduled trips resolved.

Client: A petroleum company.

Tough Problem: The compressor station observed a number of unscheduled trips which were believed to be linked to excessive vibrations. The unit was comprised of a 3-stage system from which a 4-throw reciprocating compressor was driven by an engine.

Practical Solution: SVT quickly dispatched a field team to do an initial assessment of the dynamic pressure and vibration levels. Subsequent pulsation analysis and finite element analysis enabled SVT to recommend a series of practical changes to resolve the problem: installation of orifice plates, piping restraints, adjustment of discharge bottle wedge supports and existing piping restraints.

Bottom Line: A quick response and development of solution resolved the client's reliability problem.
