avoiding catastrophic failure in power house.
Client: Large power station with high demands for equipment reliability and safety.
Tough Problem: It was the middle of the night and the operations supervisor was very concerned about some high vibration levels that had just been detected on a critical pump.
Practical Solution: SVT remotely connected to the on-line monitoring system and quickly diagnosed the problem.
A recommendation was to made to immediatley shutdown the equipment and inspect the rotor.
Inspection proved to be the right action as it was found that the blade shroud had broken away due to fatigue.
Bottom Line: Quick action prevented a catastrophic failure of a critical equipment item within the power house.
