When you first join SVT you can expect to develop rapidly as you are exposed to many new and challenging tasks.

As your experience grows you will take on increasingly complex projects, work closely with clients, lead small project teams and ultimately assume a technical or people-oriented leadership role.

The path you will take will be very much up to you but the following role oulines should give you some idea of what is ahead ...

 

Graduates

Graduates are usually exposed to a range of clients and industries. They develop first-hand knowledge of critical business issues while honing problem-solving skills.

An intensive orientation session backed up by continual learning opportunities are part of a Graduates professional development program.

For those Graduates with a desire to be very "hands on" and spend the majority of their time in the field we have a specific Field Engineer role.

Your Challenge will be to:
  1. develop first-hand knowledge of client business’
  2. take ownership of significant segments of projects
  3. build problem solving, communication and technical skills

As you gain experience on projects you are given greater autonomy and responsibility.

Most Graduates take two to three years to master the challenges of the role and be considered for consultant status.

 

Consultants

Consultants work with clients and more senior engineers to better understand issues/problems and develop strategies to address them.

Youre Challenge will be to:

  1. begin development of specialized knowledge
  2. manage a significant portion of project work
  3. develop teamwork and leadership skills

As you grow you will carry more responsibility and work on more complex issues with broader scope.

Most Consultants remain in that role for two to three years before pursuing a technical or people-oriented career as a Senior Consultant, or taking a more commerical role concentrating on business development.

 

Senior Consultants

Consultants typically move into the Senior Consultant role once they have demonstrated that they have mastered consulting skills or shown technical leadership potential.

Your Challenge will be to:

  1. keep one eye on the big picture and the other on the detail
  2. provide intellectual leadership for their teams by generating key ideas and conceptual frameworks
  3. create work plans to ensure that projects are on time and within budget
  4. work closely with clients

With experience and confidence, you will increase your contribution to business development and client relations.

Once you have established a track record of outstanding consultant capability, successful project leadership or world-class technical competency you will achieve an aspiration to reach Principal status.

 

Principal Consultants

SVT Principal Consultants are proven professionals. with typically 9-10 years of practical experience. They gradually take on larger project-management responsibilities, eventually directing a number of client engagements.

Over time, they also help link SVT's work on client projects to its broader business and strategic vision.

Experienced Principals' consistently reflect client goals and agendas, develop business in practice areas, expand SVT's business capabilities, and generate innovative ideas.

As a Principal you will also be responsible for sharing insights gained from client projects and internal research and growing the intellectual capital of the business.

 

Technicians

Technicians are “hands on” practical types who work closely with clients and consultants to better understand issues/problems in the field.

Your Challenge will be to:

  1. develop first-hand knowledge of client business’
  2. take ownership of field aspects of projects
  3. build problem solving, communication and technical skills

As you grow you will carry more responsibility and work on more complex projects. Technicians may pursue a technical path or springboard to a consulting role taking a more commerical role concentrating on business development.
