Faulty Silencers Identified, ReplacedFaulty Silencers Identified, Replaced
Tough Problem: Noise from air drier packs was affecting crew noise exposure on multiple levels of a Floating Storage Offloading Facility. A worker’s desk was also located right next to the silencers, which weren’t functioning properly. Practical Solution: SVT’s investigation revealed that the maintenance schedule for these silencers hadn’t been followed. During a noise survey, noise level measured around the silencer of the air dryer packs on the 4th deck were found to have a noise level of 124 dB(A). The Bottom Line: A changeover in silencers decreased the noise level immensely and therefore also reduced the exposure of people working in the area. |
