Fitness For Service on vessel shows it can run until shutdown
preventing interrupted production.
Client: Petroleum refinery
Tough Problem: Corrosion under insulation was discovered on a client’s debutaniser vessel. The vessel was locally thinned by 80 percent in certain areas. The client was concerned about the safety of the equipment if left in service.
Practical Solution: SVT performed Level 2 and Level 3 fitness for service assessments of the local thinned area in accordance with standard API 579.
A combination of internal pressure, weight and wind induced loading was analyzed using analytical and finite element methods.
Subsequently, SVT also reviewed and approved the client’s repair procedure of the corrosion-affected zone.
The bottom line: SVT determined that the vessel was fit to remain in service until the next scheduled shut-down.
